Linux Kernel 2.6
February 1st, 2004grml – static binaries
February 1st, 2004
Yesterday I worked on some stuff for grml and created some static binaries:
[mika@grml: /data/Source/static-binaries/done]% ls -lah * -rwxr-xr-x 1 mika mika 696K Feb 1 00:22 grep-2.5.1 -rwxr-xr-x 1 mika mika 812K Jan 31 23:01 mutt-1.5.5.1i -rwxr-xr-x 1 mika mika 1.3M Jan 31 23:43 slrn-0.9.8.0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 mika mika 1.6M Jan 31 23:56 vim-6.2.214 -rwxr-xr-x 1 mika mika 1.1M Jan 31 23:01 zsh-4.1.1 [mika@grml: /data/Source/static-binaries/done]%
Well, not all of them are linked against the dietlibc due to some problems, but they seem to fit well and at least it is a good start ;-).
lm-sensors / xmbmon
January 27th, 2004Setting up lm-sensors on my P4-system (Intel Corp. 82875P) really sucks. Now I tried xmbmon and what should I say? Yes, it works! It works out of box (./configure && make) on my workstation and on my laptop, very nice :)
My laptop (fan-rotation does not work):
[mika@tweety: ~]% mbmon Temp.= 22.9, 22.9, 27.3; Rot.= 0, 0, 0 Vcore = 3.10, 3.11; Volt. = 3.32, 3.25, 7.87, 0.00, 0.00 Temp.= 22.9, 22.9, 27.3; Rot.= 0, 0, 0 Vcore = 3.10, 3.11; Volt. = 3.32, 3.25, 7.87, 0.00, 0.00 130 [mika@tweety: ~]%
and my workstation:
[mika@grml: ~]% mbmon Temp.= 25.0, 36.0, 25.0; Rot.= 2766, 1577, 6250 Vcore = 1.57, 2.62; Volt. = 3.41, 4.35, 11.61, -5.17, -1.95 Temp.= 25.0, 36.0, 25.0; Rot.= 2721, 1577, 6250 Vcore = 1.57, 2.62; Volt. = 3.42, 4.33, 11.67, -5.17, -1.95 130 [mika@grml: ~]%
slides with prosper
January 26th, 2004I made 25 slides for my using the power of google”-lecture on GLT04 with prosper (a LaTeX class for writing transparencies). I discovered prosper-make while writing a Makefile for transformation of my slides to html, prosper-make works like a charm! I improved my LaTeX-skills while writing mika.sty ;) for setting my own footers within the slides. Works very fine!
grml.org
January 26th, 2004Ok, today I had some minutes for grmling. I made some details for design-goals of grml and requirements for it. Currently our biggest problem is which installation-system we should use, Anaconda is at least our favourite.
GLT04
January 21st, 2004Organization of Grazer LinuxTage 2004 (GLT04) is going very well, a lot of lectures (currently more than 20!) and workshops (currently about 8) will be held. Today is meeting of the people organizating this event. GLT04 will take place on FH-Joanneum in Graz on 7th and 8th May, I have to quite a lot of work – especially for my lectures and workshops (www.linuxtage.at/prokop/).
pptp
January 21st, 2004Well, yesterday I took some minutes to change my setup from Cisco-VPN-Client to PPTP – on Laptop and on my Server (both running under 2.6.1-mm2). What should I say? Works great :-) Running about two to five times as fast as the cisco-vpn-connection (due to that most people of the about 3000 people in the network are using the suck^Wcisco-vpn-connection, reading NNTP makes much more fun ;-). In the next few days I will try to set up masquerading (for playing gateway) to bring my QNX-machine online.
KDE
January 21st, 2004Kevin Krammer sent me an URL about a great article about K Desktop Environment 3.2 (german only, sorry).
Sorry ;)
January 21st, 2004Yepp, I know I did not keep my blog up2date in the last day – sorry but had (and still have) to to a lot of stuff. First of all a lot to do at work (different stuff), organization for Grazer LinuxTage 2004 and university also requests some time ;)
eclipse & turn of the year
January 1st, 2004eclipse – very nice piece of software! Nice tab-completion, great refactoring and so on. I just installed the latest-build (version 3.x) and it works fine, but you definitely need a fast computer ;-) BTW: turn of the year was funny for me (I was visiting familiy of my girlfriend) – but tomorrow I am going back to Graz for studying, working and doing some stuff for my different projects.
Update (21.01.2004): the gtk-stuff sucks – a known bug prevents you from creating new projects within eclipse, I had no chance to get around this bug (even not with current mm-versions of eclipse) so I tried the motif-version but this one sucks graphically ;o(.
castration of Rubeo
December 18th, 2003Our cat Rubeo was desexed today ;) He is sleeping all day long :)
latest stable version of the Linux kernel is: 2.6.0
December 18th, 2003Jepp – 2.6.0 stable is available. I installed it on my laptop, seems to work at least as fine as 2.6.0-test11 ;) – I will check out some more details (special-keys, cdrom-burning,…) in my christmas-holidays.
OpenSource-Labor in Styria
December 15th, 2003The OpenSource-Lab @ TU Graz where I am going to work (maybe) is mentioned in Webstandard (german only – sorry).
Funeral :(
December 12th, 2003
My grandmother died on the 10th of december :(( On the 13th is funeral in Klagenfurt so I am driving to my hometown for one day together with my girfgriend (our cat Rubeo has to stay alone for some hours).
linux 2.6.0-test11
December 6th, 2003I activated linux-2.6.0-test11 on my laptop. It runs quite fast and stable, together with cpudyn Power-Management works much better than with 2.4-kernels.
Debian project machines been compromised
November 26th, 2003Argl – Debian project machines been compromised. I really like Debian (at least it sucks less than other distributions) but the reaction of debian’s members sucks that much. Only a small notice on bottom of their main webpage, only some generell information on some debian-mailinglists and so on… Argl!
bankaustria / creditanstalt
November 23rd, 2003Ok, BA/CA sucks that much (check out old rant ;)) – I desided to create an account at P.S.K..
QNX
November 23rd, 2003I am running QNX at work. I wanted to install QNX at home, so let’s set up a gateway. Anytime I have traffic on eth1 at the gateway the kernel freezes – grml. No network on the old computer, a fast try running QNX inside VMWare was not successfull (ok, I found another QNX-ISO designed for VMWare I could try once) I delete my /data on the laptop (backup via ssh on server) and want to install QNX on /dev/hda1 on my laptop. Booting QNX…. argl – doesn’t work. Ok, try some other bootparameters – ok, no chance to get QNX working with networking :(
Because I am going to set up 2.6.0-test9 on my server I could change from cisco-vpn to PPTP – maybe I can activate the gateway then for running QNX behind.
2.6.0-test9
November 23rd, 2003
Thomas Winkler found out that there exists a cisco-vpn-client which should work with linux 2.6.0-kernels. I test it on my laptop and – it works! So I also activate the 2.6.0-test9 also on my workstation/server – but my mouse doesn’t work then as it should – damn!
$ uname -a Linux tweety 2.6.0-test9 #3 Sun Nov 23 14:55:21 CET 2003 i686 GNU/Linux
