ICQ-Spammer :)

Sunday, May 2nd, 2004

No – it’s not a rant cause it’s quite funny 8-). Today an icq-spammer named ‘Andrea’ with UIN 234701251 wrote me. Have a look to the log: 02.05 03:11 Hi, what You do? 02.05 03:11 * Authorization request : Empty authorization request message 02.05 03:11 * Authorization request : Empty authorization request message 02.05 03:11 […]

A, B, C, … D! The Programming Language

Monday, April 19th, 2004

Found A, B, C, … D! The Programming Language on osnews.com (an online-ressource I really like btw). A Comparison – D vs Other Languages. I don’t know whether ‘D’ is interesting enough (I hope that’s not a new version of ‘640kb are enough’ 8-)), but I’ll add it to the quite long list of programming-languages […]

BSD-Webpage

Wednesday, April 14th, 2004

Today I wrote a small german webpage about BSD. Work is still in progress, but any feedback (especially of bsd-geeks 8-)) is welcome!

grml

Tuesday, April 13th, 2004

Starting slrn with newsserver news.gmane.org brings more than 150 new mailinglists – pfuh. And which one is on top of it? gmane.linux.debian.devel.custom – a sign from heaven? 8-) Ok, in the next days I’ll continue my work on grml (besides working at university and writing slides for GLT04). My question to the audience: which texttool(s) […]

vimdiff

Monday, April 12th, 2004

Currently I’m checking out some nice features of vim for my workshop at GLT04. By accident I found this short but informative webpage about vimdiff. Of course I kn[e|o]w vimdiff, but the following hints were quite useful at least for me: Re-diffing :diffupdate Moving between diffs [c ]c Synchronizing :diffget :diffput Especially diffget und diffput […]

Debian-package

Friday, April 9th, 2004

Currently I’m working on the first ISO of grml and because I’m missing some debian-packages of nice tools I created a first deb (others will follow) and try to automatize this process as much as possible. I also set up an online-debian-directory (http) and it works like a charme. First release of grml is coming […]

IDN – Internationalized Domain Names in Applications (german)

Monday, April 5th, 2004

“Seit heute 12:00 Uhr können IDN Domains unter .at, .co.at und .or.at registriert werden.” So zu lesen auf nic.at – aja. Auch zu lesen ist “Um die Technischen Systeme zu entlasten wird zudem in den ersten Tage keine Whois-Abfrage für diese Domains zur Verfügung stehen.” Hm: [mika@grml: ~]% whois bücher.at % Copyright (c)2003 by NIC.AT […]

zsh

Monday, April 5th, 2004

Today I wrote a german webpage about zsh. zsh is really great and via stepping through $ZSH-SOURCE/Etc/FEATURES, Changelogs and using google I discovered many not so well known features.

Grazer LinuxTage 2004

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

While my cat Rubeo enjoys sunday ;-) I am planning the program of Grazer LinuxTage 2004. Currently we have 29(!) lectures and 3-4 workshops available in the 2 days.

Windows Live-CD

Saturday, March 27th, 2004

Because I really like playing with live-cds I created a Windows Live-CD with help of BartPE. It’s seems to a really nice system because you have access to the NTFS-partitions with write-access – very useful for debugging and repairing windows-systems. What I’d like to do is create a Windows-CD with many useful and useable programs […]

Java Desktop System

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Today I borrowed the “Java Desktop System”-Live-Demo-CD (Version 2003) from a friend of mine: -bash-2.05b# uname -a Linux Morphix 2.4.21-xfs #13 SMP Tue Aug 26 01:46:14 CEST 2003 i686 unknown -bash-2.05b# The package-management ist rpm-based and uses Yast2 :o). Other stuff is very gnome-like (gedit, nautilus,…) and the webbrowser is Mozilla. Due to the system […]

Running FreeBSD with X

Thursday, March 25th, 2004

Yes, I can’t believe it – but FreeBSD is running *with* X on my laptop ;) Uncommenting some lines in /etc/X11/XFConfig did the trick: #Load “glx” #Load “dri” #Load “record”

zsh 4.2.0 released

Saturday, March 20th, 2004

Yes – zsh version 4.2.0 is available. Check out the Release Notes for new features. What’s new? Suffix aliases allow the shell to run a command on a file by suffix: [mika@grml: ~]% grep ‘alias.*tex’ .zshrc alias -s tex=vim [mika@grml: ~]% Now a ‘$ file.tex’ calls vim with file.tex :-). Nice modules/functions are especially zsh/net/socket, […]

FreeBSD & QNX

Friday, March 19th, 2004

The harddisc on the FreeBSD-machine is much to small (<2 GiB) for having fun. I tried to install FreeBSD on a harddisc with 40 GiB but installation did not work (freeze on calling installation-routine), argl! So I’m falling back to QNX: qnx% uname -a QNX qnx 6.2.1 2003/01/18-02:12:22est x86pc x86 qnx% FreeBSD does not want […]

WLAN-card

Friday, March 19th, 2004

I bought one of the Linksys WPC11 (11Mbps 802.11b) WLAN-cards. The card works fine on linux-systems with the following settings in /etc/pcmcia/config: card “Linksys WPC11 11Mbps 802.11b WLAN Card” manfid 0x0274, 0x1612 bind “orinoco_cs” Hint: notice the 0x1612 – especially if your are using debian ;-). With the orinoco-0.13e-patch from http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinocoinfo.html you are cabable of […]

Hacking session

Thursday, March 18th, 2004

Today we (some guys of Security Treff Graz) made a hacking session at competence centre of mur.at. We had some WLAN network-cards and used kismet for wlan-sniffing. Well, mur.at has it’s centre beneath a street where GVB’s trams are driving, have a look: screenshot ;o)

palcal – calendar for cmdline

Sunday, March 14th, 2004

I just found palcal, a “calendar with events” for the commandline. It looks quite very nice and seems to be the best available calendar-tool for the commandline. Now I’ll create an at.pal-file :-). Update: at.pal is online – improvements/feedback is welcome :)

FreeSBIE

Wednesday, March 10th, 2004

FreeSBI (version 1.0) is FreeBSD as a live system on CD (like Knoppix). On 2nd March I copied the FreeSBIE-ISO to the TUG-ftp-server and today I plugged in the CD to the CD-ROM of one of the many computers at work ;-) A windows-like desktop (XFCE) welcomes the user running xinit. The italian menu is […]

rrdtool

Friday, March 5th, 2004

Today I tried to check out rrdtool. It’s quite powerful but it’s documentation sucks IMO and using it is quite painful, at least for beginners. I wrote a small shellscript which automatizes some stuff and writes a html-file.
