Samsung ML-1510
I bought a Samsung ML-1510 Laserjet for 157 Euros a few days ago. Installing it via CUPS was no problem but I had problems with the margins. Changing the options in the ppd-file did the job:
$ grep 'ImageableArea A4' /usr/share/cups/model/samsung.ppd *ImageableArea A4/A4: "14 20 581 822" $
Yeah, absolutely great – now printing is fun 8-)

Do you use the original samsung drivers? I first tried them, but they (ppmtospl2) complained: “ERROR: Could not find a suitable printer!”. Then I tried a ppd file from linuxprinting.org, which works, but with wrong margins (the image is a few mm to near to the upper left corner). I tried the same trick as you did, but with no effect at all. CUPS seems to ignore my ImageableArea entry. Any ideas?

I’m using the ppd from linuxprinting.org. Did you restart CUPS? Do you see any changes when using completely different values for the ImageableArea? Adjust the debuglevel for the log, try to add it as a new printer after reloading CUPS and the usblp module. If it still does not work drop me an email.

What ppd from linuxprinting.org did you folks use? I have a
Samsung printer and I get the error, “Could not find a
suitable printer”. I would like to download and try a ppd
from linuxprinting.org, but I don’t know which one to try.
My printer uses SPL2.

I uploaded the ppd I’m using for my Samsung ML-1510, hope it helps:
